Calicut FC and Thiruvananthapuram Kombans played out the first draw of the Super League Kerala in Kozhikode on Tuesday. Both goals in the 1-1 result came in the first half.
The Kombans took the lead in the 21st minute through Muhammed Ashar, who applied a powerful finish to stun the home support. Ashar had beautifully controlled a long ball before firing it past Vishal Joon in the Calicut goal.
The home side pressed for an equaliser and were rewarded 11 minutes later when defender Richard Osei Agyemang headed in from a freekick. The Kombans' Brazilian goalkeeper, Michel Americo Santos, applied a hand, but the Ghanaian's low header sneaked in to breathe life into the contest.
Both sides had opportunities to go for three points but lacked the composure in front of goal. This was the third and final match of the first round.
Earlier this week, Kannur Warriors edged Thrissur Magic after Malappuram FC defeated Forca Kochi in the season opener on September 7. The league will resume on September 13 (Friday) in Kozhikode with a contest between Forca Kochi and Kannur Warriors.
