Al Wakrah, Qatar: At the end of a punishing 120 minutes of football that ended 1-1, Croatia edged Japan 3-1 in shootout to reach the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup here. Goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic was Croatia's hero with three saves in shootou. Daizen Maeda (43) and Ivan Perisic (55) had scored for Japan and Croatia during regulation time.
