India's Smriti Mandhana has set the record for the most international runs in a calendar year in women's cricket.
With a brilliant 91 against West Indies in the first ODI in Vadodara on Sunday, the left-hander crossed 1,600 runs in 2024. Mandhana's 1,602 across all formats has overtaken South African Laura Wolvaardt's 1,593 runs. Mandhana can extend the record further as India play two more ODIs against the Windies before New Year.
The India vice-captian earlier set the record for the most T20I runs in a calendar year when she amassed 763 runs in 2024.
Riding on Mandhana's knock, India posted 314/9. Pratika Rawal (40) and Harleen Deol (44) made valuable contributions, while Zaida James finished with 5/45 from eight overs for the Windies.
India won by 211 runs after bowling out the visitors for 103. Renuka Singh finished with 5/29, while Priya Mishra took two wickets.
