Rain troubled Australian bowlers more than Indian batters on day three of the third Test at the Gabba on Monday.
India laboured to 51/4 at stumps on the rain-hit day, needing 246 more to avoid follow-on. India trail by 394 after Australia's first innings folded for 445.
Rain kept interrupting proceedings at Brisbane, and the umpires called off the day's action after a sixth unwelcome break in play. Captain Rohit Sharma was yet to open his account after facing six balls, while opener K L Rahul was unbeaten on 33.
Earlier, Australia added 40 runs to their overnight total of 405/7. Pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep bagged a wicket each to restrict the hosts under 450. Travis Head and Steve Smith scored centuries on day two.
Brief scores: Australia 445 in 117.1 overs (Travis Head 152, Steve Smith 101, Jasprit Bumrah 6/76) vs India 51/4 in 17 overs (KL Rahul 33 not out, Mitchell Starc 2/25)
