Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled off the highest ever chase in T20 cricket as they outplayed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets in an IPL 2024 match at the Eden Gardens on Friday night.

PBKS rode on a dazzling unbeaten 108 by opener Jonny Bairstow and sparkling fifties by Shashank Singh (68 not out) and Prabhsimran Singh (54) to chase down the target of 262 and stun the home side.

Phil Salt (75) and Sunil Narine (71) powered KKR to 261/6 after being put in to bat. The two added 138 for the opening wicket in just 10.2 overs. Venkatesh Iyer (39 not out), Andre Russell (24) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (28 not out) produced cameos to take KKR past the 260-run mark.

But the PBKS batters made a mockery of the target and romped home in the 19th over.

KKR remain in second spot with 10 points from eight games, while the win lifted PBKS to eighth place with six points after nine outings. KKR next host Delhi Capitals on Monday, while PBKS take on Chennai Super Kings in an away tie on Wednesday.
