Former Kerala Ranji captain Dr Madan Mohan dies

Kottayam: Former captain of the Kerala Ranji Trophy cricket team and ex-principal of Kottayam and Thrissur Government Medical Colleges Dr Madan Mohan passed away at his residence here on Wednesday. He was 72.

Funeral was held at his residential premises in the evening.

Madan represented Kerala in 32 first class matches. He made his Ranji debut in the 1961-62 season.

Kerala recorded their first major win - over Hyderabad - under his captaincy.

Madan, a right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm medium pacer, played his last first class match in the 1970-71 season.

He made 828 runs at a modest average of 14.78, besides picking up five wickets.

He is survived by wife Dr N Geetha (former Head of the department, Anaesthesia department, MCH, Kottayam) and sons Vinod and Sandeep.
