Murder of Keralite techie in Infosys, Pune: it could have happened like this

» K. Rasila Raju, a 25-year-old software engineer from Kozhikode, Kerala, was working in her Infosys office Sunday

» Even though it was a holiday, Rasila was at her workstation on the ninth floor of the Infosys building and was interacting with her two colleagues who were online in Bengaluru

» She had come to the office at 2 pm and was supposed to work till 11 pm

» Police got evidence that Bhaben Saikia, the murder suspect, got into Rasila's workstation

» According to police, the accused entered the section on the pretext of noting down serial numbers of some computers

» A tiff over Saikia staring at Rasila led to an argument between the two, said ACP Vaishali Jadhav-Mane.

» Rasila threatened Saikia that she would complain against him to authorities

» Saikia asked Rasila not to complain against him for his actions, but she refused.

» Rasila then went into the conference room. Saikia followed her, and strangled her using a computer cable and then kicked her in the face, according to police.

» The accused stayed on the company premises till his duty ended and later fled to Mumbai from where he was planning to board an Assam-bound train.

» From the CCTV footage, the police confirmed that nobody except the accused was present at the floor at the time of the crime.

» The murder might have taken place around 5 pm, police said.

» Around 6.20 pm, her teammates in Bengaluru alerted their team lead that Rasila was not online.

» Rasila's team lead tried to call her, but there was no response.

» The manager then called the security and asked the security guard to go and check

» The security guard found Rasila lying on the floor of conference room with computer cable around her neck and blood all over her face.

» Police got a call around 8 pm from the office after Rasila was spotted unconscious

» Saikia was nabbed around 3 am Monday from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station in Mumbai as he was trying to flee to his native place in Assam

» Saikia was deployed at Infosys for the last six months and before that worked with some other firm.

» The fact that Rasila was murdered while she was working in a secure zone in her office has sent shock waves across the IT community

» This is a second incident in the city in the last few weeks where a woman IT professional became a victim. Antara Das, a 23-year-old IT professional from West Bengal, was brutally murdered last month, a few meters away from her workplace.
