Kanimozhi, Raja hail 2G verdict, DMK celebrates

Kanimozhi has been found not guilty in the 2G spectrum case.

New Delhi/Chennai: Former telecom minister and DMK leader A Raja Thursday hailed the verdict in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case in which he was acquitted by a special court.

"I will read the judgment and speak. You see everybody is happy," Raja told reporters after coming out of the court room.

DMK MP Kanimozhi, a co-accused in the case said justice has been delivered after the special court acquitted her and others in the 2G spectrum allocation scam cases.

"There is no evidence against me and justice has been delivered," Kanimozhi told mediapersons after the verdict was pronounced.

DMK celebrates

DMK leader M K Stalin described as "historic" a special court verdict acquitting his party colleagues A Raja and sister Kanimozhi besides others in the 2G spectrum allocation case.

Expressing joy over the acquittal of all the accused Stalin charged that the case was a "planned" attempt at "insulting and finishing off" a political party, referring to his DMK.

Kanimozhi, Rajya Sabha MP and daughter of DMK supremo M Karunanidhi, was accused of conniving with former telecom minister A Raja and other co-accused in "parking" of illegal gratification of Rs 200 crore in Kalaignar TV Pvt Ltd, of which she was a promoter.

CBI to decide on an appeal

The CBI, whose case fell apart miserably in one of the biggest corruption scandals that hit the country said it would study the special court verdict and decide the future course of action.

Former telecom minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi along with fifteen other accused were acquitted by a special court in the 2G spectrum scam case.
