3 BTech students, including Keralite, killed in Punjab road accident

Phagwara (Punjab): Three BTech students, including a Keralite, died when their motorcycle was hit by a truck near here, the police said Thursday.

They were going to Chaheru from Jalandhar when their motorcycle was hit by a truck on Chaheru Bein bridge on the National Highway between Phagwara and Jalandhar Wednesday night, sub-inspector Baljinder Singh said.

While Sonu Guptam, 22; and Abhiran Khullar, 23; died on spot, Nand Kishore, 22; succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Jalandhar Cantonment, he said, adding they all were BTech final year students of Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar.

Kishore was initially admitted to a local Civil hospital but was later referred to a private hospital in Jalandhar Cantonment where he succumbed to injuries, the officer said.

While Gupta was from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Khullar from Delhi and Kishore was from Kerala, the officer said.

The Gupta and Khullar lived in a rented accommodation near the university, while the other stayed in the institute's hostel, he said.

The officer said the truck driver has been arrested and the vehicle impounded.
