Tripura CM Manik Sarkar faces death threat

Agartala: An unidentified person has issued a death threat to Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar, the police said on Friday.

The threat appeared in a Facebook post by one Riya Roy on behalf of the 'World Anti-Communist Council' on Thursday which said anybody who will kill Sarkar would be awarded Rs 5 lakh.

The police has suo motu registered a case. However, they said the FB profile in which the post appeared is suspected be fake.

Sarkar was in news recently after Doordarshan allegedly refused to broadcast his speech on the Independence Day. The public broadcaster allegedly sought the CPM leader to revise his speech, drawing condemnation from various opposition parties.

In March, RSS leader Kundan Chandrwat had announced Rs 1 crore bounty on the head of Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Hindutva outfit was forced to distance itself from the comment saying it did not subscribe to any form of violence.
