Kochi: Young Malayalam film actor Jishnu Raghavan passed away due to cancer at a private hospital here on Friday. He was 35.
Jishnu was battling throat and lung cancer for quite some time and was undergoing treatment at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS). He breathed his last at 8.15 am on Friday, a hospital spokesperson said here.
Jishnu stepped into the limelight 14 years ago as Sivan in the Kamal movie Nammal. The son of yesteryear popular actor Raghavan, Jishnu was a B. Tech graduate from NIT Calicut and had acted in more than 20 films.
He entered the world of cinema through Kilipattu in the year 1987.
Some of his movies include Pauran,Freedom and Chakaramuttu, among others. He also acted alongside Mammootty in one of the famed CBI series - Nerariyan CBI.
After taking a break from movies, Jishnu, an engineer by profession, worked for developing Information Technology in rural areas. He later returned to the movie world and acted in films including Ordinary, Nidra, Ustad Hotel, Banking Hours 10 to 4 and Annum Innum Ennum.
His performance in Nammal earned him Kerala Film Critics Award for the best male debut.
He last acted in Rebecca Uthup Kizhakkemala.
Fate's dance of destruction claims another gem
In 2014, Jishnu had posted in his Twitter account that he had survived cancer. However, unconfirmed reports hinted at a relapse and a photo in which he looked frail and sickly had gone viral last November.
Jishnu was married to Dhanya Rajan, who is an architect by profession.
Malayalam cinema had been losing a host of popular actors during the past two months. Actors Kalpana, Kalabhavan Mani, poet ONV Kurup and young musician Shan Johnson were a few who bid adieu to the art world.
