Thaliparamba: V.P. Midhun will be one of the happiest school boys today. On this special day, dedicated to the memory of the state’s first chief minister E.M.S. Nampoodiripad, the young artist has a precious gift for the great leader, something he himself has crafted - a larger than life bust of the communist veteran.
Weighing 70 kg, the bust, sculpted in bronze brings to life the inimitable expression of EMS. It will indeed be a proud moment for Midhun, a class X student of Moothedath High School in Thaliparamba. No less proud will be his widowed mother Jisha.
Crafting wonders in bronze is nothing new to Midhun, for he has won laurels aplenty for his extraordinary sculpting skills. It was this skill which gave him the confidence to take up work on the EMS bust six months ago.
A native of Keezhattur, Midhun’s tour de force will find pride of place in the EMS Mandir which houses the Keezhattur Public Library. The bust is Midhun’s special dedication to the EMS Mandir.
The young artist is no stranger to sculpting. Talent runs in the family. Kunjimangalam Narayanan, the artist who sculpted the AKG busts set up in Kannur and New Delhi, is Midhun’s uncle, who has been the young boy’s greatest support and inspiration.
CPM state secretariat member M.V. Govindan will unveil the bust at a function to mark the occasion.
