Thrissur: Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala met the jailed Kerala Students Union (KSU) leaders who are accused of assaulting an SFI activist during the

Calicut University D-Zone Arts Festival. KSU District President Gokul Guruvayur and two others are in custody.

After meeting the student leader at the Viyyur Jail, Chennithala criticised the police's case handling. He alleged that the cops were quick to arrest the KSU activists but were reluctant to take action against SFI leaders.

He also blamed police inaction for the repeated clashes at the arts festival. "My visit is not the same as CPM leaders meeting the accused in the Periya case," Chennithala said, justifying his visit.

Meanwhile, the remand report noted that the assault was premeditated and intended to cause grievous harm. It further stated that Gokul, the primary accused, verbally abused and struck Ashish Krishnan on the head and ears with a wooden stick even after the latter collapsed to the ground.
