New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted interim bail to Kootickal Jayachandran in connection with a POCSO case. The interim relief from arrest proceedings has been granted until February 28, when his anticipatory bail plea will be reconsidered by the court. The court allowed the interim bail on the condition that the actor fully cooperates with the investigation, Manorama News reported.
Kerala Police had earlier issued a lookout notice against Malayalam actor Kootickal Jayachandran, also known as K R Jayachandran, who has been absconding. The case, registered in 2024 at the Kasaba police station in Kozhikode, involves allegations of raping a four-year-old girl. The complaint was lodged by the survivor's mother, and the actor has been charged with rape and other relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Both the Kerala High Court and the Kozhikode Sessions Court recently rejected Jayachandran’s anticipatory bail pleas. The survivor’s relatives have also approached the Kozhikode City Police Commissioner, demanding swift action against him.
As per the lookout notice, the public has been urged to report any information about Jayachandran’s whereabouts to the Kasaba police station in Kozhikode.
