The Cantonment police, Thiruvananthapuram, have registered a case under the POCSO act against three people associated with the Reporter TV channel on charges of using a double entendre aimed at a participant in state school youth festival which concluded recently in Thiruvananthapuram. Cantonment police said that the case was registered based on a complaint filed by the Director, Department of Woman and Child Development. As per the case, they have been charged with indecent representation of a minor girl through electronic media.
Arun Kumar, Shabas Ahammed and an identifiable person are the accused in the case, said Cantonment SHO. The FIR was filed on Wednesday night. The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has already sought a report on the video broadcast by the channel during the coverage of the state school arts festival. The case pertains to a discussion hosted by Arun Kumar in which he comments about a video story done by the reporter on Oppana, one of the competitions featuring performing arts.
The discussion drew sharp responses from various quarters, saying that the comments were made in bad taste. The discussion centred on a video played to the romantic tune from a popular Malayalam movie in which the reporter is shown courting a school girl adorned in Oppana attire, which ends with a teacher herding the students inside. The video, which was posted on social media as part of state school arts festival coverage, was slammed for the inappropriate tone. The channel has removed the controversial video from all platforms.
