Thiruvananthapuram: The burial of an elderly man under unusual circumstances has sparked controversy in Neyyattinkara, with the deceased's family claiming they were fulfilling his wish to attain 'Samadhi.'
The incident came to light on Thursday when the family placed a board outside their home that said Gopan Swami (78) had attained 'Samadhi.'
According to the family, Gopan Swami expressed a desire for 'Samadhi' before his death and instructed them not to inform anyone about his burial.
The family allegedly built a structure, seated the body on a platform, and sealed it with a slab. People in the neighbourhood reported the matter to the police after noticing the board.
The Neyyattinkara Police launched an investigation, recording statements from family members and local people. The son of the deceased, along with a priest from a nearby temple, informed the police that the body was interred in the structure shortly after Gopan Swami's death.
The police have submitted a detailed report to the District Collector and sealed the burial site. The tomb will be opened to probe into whether the Swami was buried before his death or not. Further investigations are underway.
