Malappuram/Kolkata: Nilambur MLA PV Anvar, who recently joined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) after breaking away from the CPM-led LDF, has been appointed as the state coordinator for the party’s Kerala unit.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Anvar announced his new role in the Mamata Banerjee-led party. Highlighting the Trinamool Congress's political strength, he noted that the party's 40 MPs—12 in the Rajya Sabha and 28 in the Lok Sabha—give it significant influence in legislative assemblies and policymaking. During discussions with AITC leaders, Anvar requested their support for amending the Central Forest and Wildlife Act of 1972 to introduce seasonal concessions, a demand he claimed the party assured to back, reported PTI.

Anvar plans to return to the state on Sunday, January 12. He had formed the Democratic Movement of Kerala (DMK) two months ago after severing ties with the CPM, which ended its association with him following his rebellion against the ruling front on various issues.

Elected as a Left-supported independent candidate in both 2016 and 2021, Anvar recently faced legal trouble after being arrested for allegedly vandalising a forest office during a protest over the death of a tribal man in an elephant attack in Nilambur.
