Alappuzha: A 58-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Alappuzha on Monday, days after filing a police complaint about an attack by an unidentified assailant. The deceased, Thankamma, wife of Puthenpurackal Johnykutty and a resident of Katoor in South Mararikulam Panchayat, was found hanging inside her house.
According to Mannachery Sub-Inspector Biju KR, Thankamma had reported on January 1 that an unknown individual had broken into her house, assaulted her, and tied her hands and legs to a window. The attacker, wearing a face mask, also stuffed clothes into her mouth, rendering her unable to identify him. The incident occurred during daylight hours, and her son found her unconscious upon returning home.
While initial investigations considered the possibility of a robbery, no valuables or ornaments were reported missing. The police were actively probing the case when her death happened.
Preliminary findings suggest suicide, said cops. An autopsy will be conducted at Vandanam Medical College Hospital in Alappuzha.
