Nilambur Police arrested MLA P V Anvar on Sunday in connection with the vandalism at the Nilambur Divisional Forest Office. He faces charges of destroying public property, obstructing official duties, and other related offences. Alongside Anvar, ten of his party workers have also been implicated in the case.
Anvar was taken into custody from his residence at Othai despite strong resistance from his supporters. Senior police officials visited his house, discussed the situation, and ensured it remained under control. Due to the tense atmosphere, a substantial police force was also deployed outside his residence.
Meanwhile, Anvar criticised Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPM leader P Sasi, alleging political vendetta and describing the move as an act of political highhandedness.
The incident unfolded on Sunday morning when Anvar and his associates staged a protest at the forest office following the tragic death of a tribal man in a wild elephant attack. The demonstration escalated, resulting in the alleged vandalism.
The victim, identified as Mani (40), a resident of Poochappara, was trampled to death by a wild elephant on Saturday evening.
