Suicide of DCC treasurer NM Vijayan: VACB to probe allegations of financial fraud

Kalpetta: The Wayanad vigilance unit will probe allegations of financial fraud related to securing jobs in cooperative institutions, which have surfaced following the suicide of Wayanad DCC treasurer N M Vijayan and his son Jijesh. VACB Wayanad unit DySP Shaji Varghese said that the team will collect the account details of all the persons involved, including Vijayan.

Two complaints submitted to the District Police Chief by Shaji Puthanpurayil and P A Pathrose regarding the financial irregularities have been handed over to Sulthan Bathery DySP Abdul Shareef, who is currently investigating the suicide. CPM alleged that Vijayan ended his life as he was unable to repay the huge sums allegedly received by Congress leadership promising jobs in cooperative banks under its administration.

The Congress leadership in Wayanad has been caught grappling with a bribe-for-job scam following the suicide of Vijayan and Jijesh. Documents have surfaced which show that Vijayan had allegedly taken bribes in return for jobs in cooperative banks ruled by Congress. The CPM then launched an agitation demanding an investigation into the suicide of Vijayan. One of the documents being circulated is an agreement of Vijayan with a person showing a transaction of Rs 30 lakhs in return for jobs in the cooperative banks ruled by Congress.

Vijayan and his son were found at home in a critical condition after consuming poison. They died at Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, in the last week of December 2024.
