Alappuzha: A 41-year-old woman died by suicide due to pressure from a bank. The deceased, identified as Asha, was a resident of SL Puram.
Her husband, Sudheer, told Manorama News that bank officials had visited their home and made threats. The couple had loan arrears with the SL Puram Cooperative Bank.
"The bank officials also visited other houses where people had taken loans. During the inquiry, we learned that they informed residents that the arrears needed to be settled," Mararikulam Sub Inspector Sajeev told Onmanorama.
A post-mortem was conducted at Vandanam Medical College Hospital, and her body was handed over to her relatives.
This comes days after an Idukki vendor named Sabu Mulangassery died by suicide in front of the Rural Development Corporative Society in Kattappana after the bank officials allegedly denied the withdrawal of his deposit.
