Manorama ‘Hridayapoorvam’ silver jubilee celebrations on Jan 13 in Kottayam

Kottayam: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan will inaugurate the silver jubilee celebrations of ‘Hridayapoorvam’, a cardiac health initiative by Malayala Manorama in association with the Madras Medical Mission, at the Mammen Mappilai Hall in Kottayam on January 13 at 3:30 pm.
Dr Tessy Thomas, renowned missile scientist and Vice Chancellor of Noorul Islam University will preside over the event. Dr Ajit Mullasari, Chairman of the Madras Medical Mission and head of its cardiology wing will release the commemorative postal cover ‘Hridayapoorvam@25’.
The Governor will also felicitate the doctors from the Madras Medical Mission who played a leading role in the Hridayapoorvam project. Earlier in the day, Health Minister Veena George will inaugurate a panel discussion on cardiac health at 10:30 am. Malayala Manorama Chief Resident Editor Harsha Mathew will honour the paramedical staff of the Madras Medical Mission. The celebrations will conclude with a cultural evening starting at 5 pm.
Launched by Malayala Manorama in 1999, Hridayapoorvam has been a lifeline for patients with limited financial means. It offers free cardiac examinations and surgeries. Over the years, the project has organised 82 free health check-up camps and facilitated 2,500 free cardiac surgeries across Kerala. The project also ensures follow-up check-ups for patients who have already received treatment or undergone surgery as part of it.
Mass Run across districts on January 12
As part of the silver jubilee celebrations, a mass run will be held in all districts of Kerala on January 12. The 5-kilometre run to promote the World Heart Day message `Use Heart for Action' will start at 6:30 am. Each district can accommodate a maximum of 200 participants.
