Meanwhile, Kerala has begun clearing the waste in Tirunelveli following an order from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT gave the Kerala State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) three days to remove the material. The waste includes biomedical, food, plastic, and other types from various institutions in Kerala, including the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Thiruvananthapuram.

The NGT also highlighted a previous instance in which Tamil Nadu incurred Rs 70,000 in costs to remove similar waste, which Kerala has yet to reimburse.
