Idukki: A man died by suicide in front of the Rural Development Corporative Society in Kattappana on Friday after the bank officials allegedly denied the withdrawal of his deposit. The deceased is Sabu Mulangassery from Kattappana. Sabu was found hanging on a staircase in front of the bank on Friday morning.
In his suicide note, he alleged that the bank officials refused to allow him to withdraw money from his account and mistreated him. Sabu approached the bank on Thursday to withdraw his deposit of Rs 25 lakh for his sick wife's treatment. He had deposited his earnings worth Rs 50 lakh in the bank. He had withdrawn money several times for his wife's medical care and other expenses.
However, the bank officials claimed they denied the withdrawal as they did not possess enough funds.
In his suicide note, Sabu accused the bank secretary Reji and two staff members of ill-treating him when he demanded his money back. He concluded his suicide note by saying that he was ending his life as no other depositor would face such an issue.
Congress and BJP have started a protest against the CPM-ruled cooperative bank in Kattappana.
