The Kerala government is considering the promotion of ADGP MR Ajith Kumar to the position of Director General of Police (DGP).

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Minister G R Anil said on Thursday that the cabinet unanimously decided to promote senior IPS officer ADGP M R Ajithkumar to the rank of DGP. Ajithkumar was recently involved in a political controversy over his alleged meetings with RSS leaders.

"As a minister, I can say that there are no differences and the decision was taken unanimously," Anil said. He dismissed reports of differences among ministers regarding the promotion of the officer facing a vigilance probe for allegedly amassing illegal wealth, stating that the decision was unanimous and quite natural, reported PTI.

"There is a precedent for this, and the cabinet approved the promotions of all the senior IPS officers, not only of a single person," Anil said. The minister added that the inquiry against the police officer is a different thing, and it is underway.

This comes amid the state government's consideration regarding the promotion of ADGP MR Ajith Kumar to the position of Director General of Police (DGP). A screening committee within the police department has submitted a list of officers for senior positions, including DGP, ADGP, IG, and DIG.
