Malappuram: An officer of the Special Operation Group under Kerala police was found dead with bullet injuries on Sunday night. The deceased, Vineeth (36), was a native of Padinjarethara in Wayanad and an officer of the first Special Operation Group (SOG) batch.
His body was found around 9.30 pm inside the bathroom of the Areekode camp office. Upon hearing gunshots, his colleagues rushed to the bathroom and took him to a private hospital in Manjeri, where doctors pronounced him dead.
It is suspected that he shot himself due to mental distress after senior officials denied his leave application. He had applied for leave to nurse his pregnant wife. Manorama News reported that he had participated in a 40-day training session without taking any days off. I learned that he was stressed at work.
His body will be taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Manjeri for a post-mortem on Monday.
