Pathanamthitta: In the FIR related to the road mishap that claimed four lives in Pathanamthitta's Murinjakal, the police cited rash and negligent driving of the car driver as the cause of the accident. Four people including a newlywed couple were killed when their Swift car collided with the tourist bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh around 4.5 am on Sunday. According to reports, the car was overspeeding. CCTV visuals on the stretch of Punalur-Muvattupuzha National Highway confirmed that the bus did not violate traffic rules.
The deceased are Nikhil Eapen, his wife Anu, his father Eapen Mathayi and Anu's father Biju George. Their vehicle met with the accident while heading to their home in Ranni from Thiruvananthapuram airport. Eapen and Biju reached the airport in their car to pick Nikhil and Anu who returned to Kerala after their honeymoon in Malaysia.
Natives alleged that Murinjakal is an accident-prone area. Pathanamthitta district collector told the media that discussions would be held with the Kerala Road Safety Authority over the surge in road accidents on the stretch of Paravur-Muvattupuzha road.
