Wayanad: The management of Pazhassi Raja College in Pulpally has suspended an assistant professor pending inquiry after receiving 26 complaints against him from the students and teachers within two months. K Jobish Joseph, the Head of the Department (HoD) of Political Science at the college, was suspended on Tuesday. The management took this action based on the recommendation of the judicial inquiry committee, which conducted a preliminary investigation into the issue. The committee's report found prima facie evidence supporting the serious allegations against the teacher.
The report further stated that Jobish Joseph had demeaned his position as a teacher by imparting misleading information to students and emotionally exploiting them, which could negatively affect their future.
Pazhassi Raja College Principal Abdul Barry told Onmanorama that he was compelled to forward the complaints against the teacher to the management as the number of complaints against him went up 'day by day'. "The decision on the suspension of the teacher was taken by the management after the inquiry committee's preliminary probe", he said.
The allegations against the teacher include misbehaviour with both students and colleagues, threatening the authorities, insubordination towards superiors, and intentionally damaging the academic atmosphere of the institution. Additionally, the teacher allegedly misused social media platforms to threaten faculty members and management representatives, as well as to spread information tarnishing the institution's reputation.
The Pulpally police have also registered criminal cases against Jobish Joseph for assaulting colleagues and attempting to hit a female lecturer with a vehicle.
