Thiruvananthapuram: The only thing that is clear after P V Anvar's 45-minute encounter with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on September 3 is that the Nilambur MLA will hold fire for at least a month till the probe into allegations of police misconduct is complete. One month is the deadline the CM has set State Police Chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb. "My role as a comrade ends," is how Anvar described his meeting with the CM.
Anvar looked neither exuberant nor disappointed with the meeting. "I saw the Chief Minister, brought all the issues to his notice, gave in writing all that had to be given in writing. The CM was very attentive and asked me details," Anvar said, and added: "Now I have left it to the CM."
Anvar said it was as a comrade that he recounted to the CM all that he had publicised through his three press conferences. "I will meet M V Govindan (CPM state secretary) and hand over the copy of the complaint that I had submitted before the CM. Once I have done this, my role as a comrade ends," he said, and added: "My only remaining responsibility is to cooperate with the investigation," he added.
Anvar was evasive when told that the investigation was being conducted without removing Ajith Kumar from the post of ADGP (Law & Order) and that the top police official was being investigated by officers junior to him. "These are for the party and the CM to decide. I can only point out the issues," Anvar said.
However, it can be inferred from his words that he had broached the topic with the CM. Anvar sounded as if he expected some changes. "I had just given the complaint. You cannot expect things to happen all of a sudden. Let's wait and see," he said. Anvar also repeated that this was a "communist government", as if hinting that fairness was expected of it. "It definitely will have to consider the issues I had raised as it affects the people. I am sure a proper arrangement will be put in place," Anvar said.
However, Anvar evaded questions about the CM's political secretary P Sasi. He was asked whether he was let down by the seeming lack of action against Sasi, but he ignored the question. Perhaps an answer to his was contained in the earlier remark that this was a "communist government" and that it had to take the concerns of common people seriously.
Anvar also rejected speculations that powerful people were behind his latest revelation. He threw his hands up and said behind him there was only God.
