Thiruvananthapuram: A distressed depositor, who consumed poison after failing to retrieve his deposit from the Service Cooperative Bank here, succumbed on Wednesday. The deceased Soma Sagaram (52) was a native of Marathur in Neyyatinkara.
He had deposited Rs 5 lakh in the Congress-led Perumpazathur Service Co-operative Bank, intending to utilise the funds for his daughter's wedding. However, his attempts to withdraw the money proved futile, leading him to consume poison in despair two weeks ago. Soma Sagaram breathed his last on Wednesday evening.
"He approached the bank several times to get our hard-earned cash back. But they did nothing to help us," his wife Laila said.
"Soma Sagaram approached us for his deposits for different needs including house renovation and daughters' wedding. But he always spoke to us in a calm manner," a bank official told Manorama News implying that there was no sense of urgency in his request.
