Kottayam: Malayalam actor Pradeep KR, who is more popular by the name Kottayam Pradeep, died following a heart attack on Thursday. He was 61.
Pradeep, who started his acting career in 2001 at the age of 40, mostly donned comedy roles. He had acted in over 70 movies.
His first break was in Ee Nadu Enale Vare, directed by IV Sasi.
During the initial years, he worked as a junior artist, appearing in mainly non-speaking roles and uncredited roles.
He appeared in many movies including Rajamanikyam and 2 Harihar Nagar. His best works include Aadu Oru Bheegara Jeevi Aanu, Oru Vadakkan Selfie, Life of Josutty, Kunjiramayanam, Welcome to Central Jail, Amar Akbar Antony, Adi Kapyare Kootamani and Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan.
Pradeep also won the Best Supporting actor for various roles at the 2nd Asianet Comedy Awards 2016.
People from various walks of life including ministers, people's representatives and actors condoled the demise of Pradeep.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in his condolence message, said Pradeep was a unique actor who made even minor roles memorable through his spontaneous style.
Several actors including superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran paid their tributes on social media.
He is survived by his wife Maya and two children.
