Kerala lottery tickets set to sport a dash of gloss to ward off fraud

Kannur: Not just the promise of luck, lottery tickets are set to sport some shine too. Lottery tickets will be printed using glitter ink to prevent frauds committed by taking the colour photostat of the tickets.

There would also be a specific spot at the back of the ticket for the agency seal. Currently, there have been instances of seal on the back of the ticket getting smudged that makes it difficult to recognise the QR code on the front. The QR code, which is currently on the right hand-side next to the ticket number, will be moved to the left.

Another notable change is that the variable data, which includes the ticket number and confidential number, will appear on various parts of the print ticket. Currently, it is printed only at one place on the ticket. This change is to prevent any fraud by scraping the ticket number.

These changes, which are under the active consideration of the lottery department, will come into effect after the state Budget.

At present, lottery tickets are printed at the Kerala Books and Publications Society at Kakkanad in Ernakulam and the C-APT in Thiruvananthapuram. There are demands to bring in more agencies.

A section of the agents has also demanded an increase in the price of the daily ticket from Rs 40 to Rs 50.
