Ayoor, Kollam: Two people were injured as a speeding bike rammed another bike near Ayoor along the MC Road on Friday. The accident was caused as a 19-year-old tried to take a selfie while riding the bike, according to the police.

Pathanamthitta native Aromal was riding the bike that caused the accident. He was injured in the accident.

The other bike involved in the accident belonged to 24-year-old MBA student, Ashwin Krishnan, a Valakom native. Ashwin has suffered serious leg injuries.

The accident happened at the Pollikode area along the MC Road around 9am on Friday.

Youths on four bikes were heading towards Kottarakkara, when one of the riders lost control over his bike and it collided with Ashwin's bike coming from the opposite direction. But the others riding along with this bike did not stop.

After being hit, Ashwin's bike crashed into a car. Aromal's bike hit another bike on the roadside and a cart in front of a shop. His bike was completely mangled.

The bikes of the youth gang did not have number plates, according to the police. A bike, found next to a shop located near to the accident spot, was later handed over to the police by the local people. The police suspect that the bike belongs to one of the four-member gang.

Prior to the accident, the Highway police had tried to flag down the bikes at Ayoor area after taking note of their high speed. But the bikes sped away and the accident happened soon after.

The Motor Vehicles Department traced the owner after checking the chassis number of the vehicle involved in the accident.

The police of the Valakom aid post led the rescue efforts. The Kottarakara police have filed a case.
