Thiruvananthapuram: A massive repair work will be undertaken from 6 pm on Friday to Saturday night to rectify the problems in the computer network of the Treasury Department. The online transactions through treasury portal and other government websites will be hit for another three days due to the repair work.
The work is being undertaken to find a permanent solution to the recurring problems faced in the network through which the disbursal of salary and pension of government employees and other transactions worth crores of rupees are undertaken.
Though the system was subjected to repair work many times earlier, the problems continued to persist. The repair work was undertaken last time on January 1 and 2.
The rectification work is planned for the weekend since it is a holiday for government offices on Saturday and Sunday. The recurring obstructions in the computer network have been derailing the disbursement of salary and pension and other online financial transactions of the government for the last many days.
As part of the repair work, the main attempt will be to create more space by re-organising data since the database has breached its limit. If this attempt fails, the online transactions through the treasury accounts will be hit in the coming days too.
The major errors that have crept into the treasury system for the last six years have been causing great discomfort to various departments which depend on the treasury for online transactions. The Registration Department is the worst-hit due to the recurring conking out of the treasury computer system.
Main transactions hit
Major transactions that are currently hit are financial transactions of the High Court, transactions in the Electrical Inspectorate, Spark bills, fees remittance at the Motor Vehicles Department, treasury online services like TSB, revenue services that include remittance of land tax, and transactions in the Registration Department
