Three natives of Rajasthan were arrested on Sunday for extorting Rs 10 lakh from city students by tricking them into viewing pornographic content.
Ashok Patidar, Nilesh Patidar and Vallabh Patidar were caught by a police team headed by city Cyber Police assistant commissioner T Syamlal.
The state police that had based its investigation on a complaint filed by a student two month ago has attained a transit warrant for the trio to be brought to Kerala.
The gang that was arrested in Rajasthan had targeted students involved in online classes by sending them explicit pop-ups. Later, they invited the unsuspecting students for private online chats and shared pornographic content.
Then, they approached the students who fell into their traps by claiming to be from the CBI cyber wing. The students were then blackmailed saying the chat details would be revealed if they didn't pay.
According to the police, several students throughout the state became the victims. The gang has reportedly done similar activities in various other states.
