Kozhikode: The youth, who killed a 23-year-old woman by setting her aflame in front of the Thikkodi Panchayat office near Koyilandy in Kozhikode district on Friday, succumbed to injuries on Saturday early morning. His target, Krishna Priya, had died a few hours after the attack.

Nandakumar, 30, son of Valiya Madathil Mohanan in Thikkodi, who suffered burns during the Friday morning incident, died at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

Krishna Priya, a postgraduate in computer science, was working as a temporary staff at the Thikkodi Gram Panchayat. Both of them knew each other. She had joined the office only four days ago.

She is the daughter of Kattuvayal Manojan.

While speaking to Krishna Priya in front of the panchayat office around 10 am, Nandakumar, all of a sudden, took a bottle of petrol, poured it over both of them and then lit the light.

Krishna Priya died at the hospital where she was admitted later on Friday.

Spurned love  likely forced Nanda Kumar to resort to the crime. Both were friends for the last four years. But a few days ago, they fell apart. 

Krishna Priya joined as the project assistant on a temporary basis at the planning section of the Thikkodi Panchayat only a few days ago. 

Dying declaration

According to the dying declaration given by Krishna Priya at the hospital before her death, Nandakumar had stabbed her before setting her aflame. She also said she was injured in the stabbing.

Though Krishna Priya was admitted to hospital with more than 90 per cent burns, she managed to speak and was not fully unconscious. Later, she succumbed to injuries.
