Palakkad: A day after Metroman E Sreedharan announced that he was quitting active politics within a year of entering it, BJP state president K Surendran rushed to meet the veteran bureaucrat.
However, Surendran claimed that he wasn't surprised by Sreedharan's decision. "He had never been actively involved in politics," said Surendran here on Friday.
He added that Sreedharan, who was BJP's chief ministerial candidate in the 2021 Kerala Assembly Polls, will continue his association with the party.
"He is the party's national executive member, and the party will continue to receive his services," said Surendran. He claimed that the 89-year-old had entered politics at the request of the BJP.
"As someone attracted to Narendra Modi's governance, he had chosen to cooperate with BJP. He will continue to offer his services to the country and the party."
Sreedharan had lost in the assembly polls from the Palakkad constituency to Congress's Shafi Parambil. Recently, he said that he was not able to do active politics due to age-related problems.
But, Surendran has claimed that the BJP will continue to seek his counsel.
"Sreedharan sir had submitted a detailed report on how to be more people-friendly. The BJP has studied it well and based on that we are doing various reforms in Kerala," said Surendran.
