Changanassery: The BJP has decided to move the Kerala High Court for scrapping the election of CPM candidate Krishnakumari Rajashekharan from a municipal word here in Kottayam district.

Krishnakumari, the former Changanassery municipal chairperson and senior CPM leader in the town, had won with a slender margin of 4 votes from Ward No 20 Mannam Nagar. BJP's Shanthi KMuraleehran was in second place, while UDF independent Asha C Nair came third.

The BJP has alleged that the electoral rolls were tampered with hence the victory was achieved with the help of fake voters.

Despite the municipal secretary lodging a complaint with the State Election Commission regarding the discrepancies in the voters list, no action was taken and there was tampering in other lists as well, alleged BJP office-bearers Shanthi Muraleedharan, A Manoj, N P Krishna Kumar and Subhash Koikkal.

Krishnakumari however refuted the charges.

"It is normal for political parties to add voters before the elections. All applications for enlisting voters are examined in detail by officials and the final voters list is prepared after that process. Only those who had names in the voter list cast their votes. They have lodged the complaint after losing," Krishnakumari said.
