Perinthalmanna: India is famed for its political dynasties. In north Kerala, half a dozen members of a family are contesting in the municipal elections scheduled this month. If all win, the family could have a decisive hold over the civic body, Perinthalmanna Municipality.
The Pachiri Family says with just one more member in the fray, they would have made a dashing Sevens football team.
The six members of the family who are in the fray for the coming local body polls have been allotted 'Football' as election symbol!
Pachiri Farooq, his wife Surraiya Farooq, younger brother Subair, nephew's wife Hussaina Nazer Pachiri and her brother's daughter-in-law P P Jaseena are all set to try their luck in different wards of the Perinthalmanna Municipality which is in Malappuram district.
The family has had representatives in the Perinthalmanna Municipality since 1995.
Pachiri Farooq who was the leader of the opposition twice in the civic body is a good football player and general secretary of the local Qadar Ali Club. This is his fourth local body election.
His wife Surraiya was elected municipal councillor twice.
Of the six candidates of the Pachiri family, three are contesting as independents with UDF backing and the rest are also independent candidates, but without any backing of a political party or alliance.
Here’s wishing them good luck!
