The decrease in monsoon rains and showers during the thulam month has led to a significant decrease in the flow of water this year. The next monsoon is more than six months away.

According to locals, the Bharathapuzha river will dry up completely by January if the current situation continues. This will affect many water supply schemes that depend on the river, which is also known as Nila.
