Malappuram: When Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi met siblings Karthika and Kavya for the third time, he carried a special gift for them.

Rahul came with the keys of the house that he had promised to construct for the duo. In 2019 the siblings lost their mother, three brothers and uncle in the humongous tragedy that struck Kavalappara following the landslide in 2019.

Rahul had promised to build a house for the siblings and the keys of the house were handed over to them at a function in Collectorate on Monday. "Did you like the house," he asked the sisters. "Yes we liked it very much. We are so grateful to you" they replied.

The keys of the house were handed over to them after a meeting held at the collectorate to review COVID related activities in the district.

The father of the siblings had died much before the landslide tragedy which literally wiped out their entire family and razed the house. While promising the house to the sisters at Vazhikadavu in December last year, the Congress leader assured that he would stand with them. Subsequently he handed over the land documents to the siblings at Edakkara.

Karthika who has completed hotel management course, is currently employed in Palakkad while Kavya is a student of Ayurveda nursing in Wayanad. The house for the siblings was constructed by AICC.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi who arrived in a special aircraft at the Kozhikode international airport from Delhi, was received by opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, KPCC president Mullapally Ramachandran, UDF convenor M M Hassan, Muslim League natoinal general secretary P K Kunhalikutty. AICC general secretary K C Venugopal is accompanying Rahul.

The Wayanad MP was received by Collector K Gopalakrishnan at the collectorate . After taking part in the COVID review meeting, he reached Wayanad at 6:15pm.

Rahul is scheduled to attend another meeting at the Collectorate at 10:30am. He will return to Delhi on Wednesday.
