Vellarikundu, Kasaragod: A 22-year-old man, accused of killing his teenage sister by mixing poison in ice cream, buried the rat poison packets after committing the crime at his house near Balal in Kerala’s Kasaragod district.
These rat poison packets have now been retrieved from his house premises. The accused, Albin Benny, was taken to the house for evidence gathering around 7am on Friday.
The youth’s sister Ann Mary Maria, father Benny and mother Bessy had consumed the ice cream prepared at home on July 31. The sister, who fell ill soon afterwards, died at the hospital on August 5. Their father Benny is still at the hospital. Their mother is currently at a relative's house after undergoing treatment.
The youth had reportedly attempted to commit the crime twice. In the first instance, he had mixed poison in chicken curry. The rat poison packets, used in the first bid, were found amid the gunny bags at the house. He then mixed poison in the ice cream in the next attempt. These poison packets were buried near the banana trees.
The police also found the vessel in which the ice cream was prepared.
The police said that the accused had also tried to set fire to the leftovers.
The probe team is carrying out a scientific probe based on the accused's mobile phone.
The accused was presented before the Kasaragod magistrate via video conferencing on Friday evening. He has been remanded. He was also made to undergo COVID-19 tests, but the results were negative.
