Palakkad: The beautician who was found dead in Palakkad likely met her suspected killer on social media, the police have suggested. The man, a music teacher, is learned to have confessed to the murder.
The murder came to light after the police arrested Prashanth, 32, a music teacher staying at a rental house in Manali in Palakkad district .
Suchitra, a 42-year-old beautician trainer working at Kottiyam in Kollam district, left her workplace on March 17 evening after mailing her employer that she had to leave for Alappuzha to care for her ailing father-in-law. The next day she emailed the beauty parlour again to extend her leave for five days.
However, she told her folks that she was sent for a training in Ernakulam. She called up her house for a couple of days. When she remained incommunicado after that, the family made inquiries with the beauty parlour and learned that the disappeared woman had told her employer another story.
The family lodged a complaint with the Kottiyam police. They told the police that the woman was separated from her husband.
The police later found out that the woman had gone to visit Prashanth, a keyboard artist, at Manali. The youngster initially said that the woman had committed suicide after they quarrelled. He later confessed to killing her and burying her in the yard of his rented house.
A body was dug out from the compound. Forensic experts are working to confirm if the body belongs to Suchitra. The Kollam district crime branch, which had taken the youngster into custody, took him to the scene of crime to dug out the body. Another team visited the spot and sealed the periphery Tuesday night.
Superintendent of police G Sivavikram and deputy superintendent of police Saju Varghese led the proceedings in compliance with the regulations imposed by the government in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic.
