Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) is likely to be revamped this month itself. Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, and KPCC chief Mullappally Ramachandran would work out a detailed plan, which would be discussed with the members of the political affairs committee and a final list could be drawn up by July 31.

The party's political affairs committee which held a meeting here on Sunday decided against the constitution of a jumbo committee. The general opinion at the meet was that the rejig should be such that those who would be picked to be the KPCC office-bearers should get due importance with the post assigned. However, no decision was taken on the number of office-bearers. A detailed discussion on the norms can be held at the leadership level, it was decided.

A leadership meet on the preparations of the local body polls would be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute at Neyyar Dam on August 2 and 3.

The Congress is set to hold a protest against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) government on August 15. The party would be leading the dharna against the ruling LDF government on various issues. It would be held as an event of the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF).

Protest meets would be held at eight places to highlight the fallout in the flood relief works on August 14 that marks the first anniversary of the 2018 deluge.

The meet also decided to intensify preparations for local polls and assembly byelections. Several leaders also cautioned against getting complacent over the massive victory in the recent Lok Sabha polls. The political situation in the state helped the UDF sweep 19 of the 20 seats in the state, it was pointed out. To sustain the momentum, the activists should work towards strengthening the organisation and for the people, the meet said.

No opportunities to point out the lapses on the part of the government should be missed, it was opined.
