Thiruvananthapuram: It's 'son trouble' for Kerala's CPM secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan again. The Mumbai police have registered an FIR against his eldest son Binoy Kodiyeri last week after a bar dancer from Bihar filed a complaint against him alleging that he had sexually abused her for the past 11 years.
The FIR has been registered under IPC sections of sexual assault, cheating and intimidation.
The 33-year-old Mumbai-based victim, who hails from Bihar, claimed that her eight-year-old son's father is Binoy Kodiyeri. She filed the complaint at the Andheri Oshiwara police station on June 13.
According to the complaint, Binoy was in a relationship with her since 2008, when she was working at a dance bar in Dubai. She alleged that Binoy had promised to marry her, but despite several pleas he refused to do so. After she came to know in 2018 that he was already married, the woman decided to register a police complaint.
Following the complaint, the Mumbai cops have started an inquiry into the case.
Senior inspector Shyelesh Paswalvar of Oshiwara police station told Manorama that a detailed inquiry was needed as the events alleged in the complaint occurred several years ago.
The woman said Binoy introduced himself to her as a bachelor businessman involved in construction sector in Dubai. Binoy allegedly showered her with expensive gifts during the period, the complaint said.
The complaint says, “I hail from a poor family in Bihar. I have eight sisters. After my father's death in 2007, I moved to my elder sister's house in Mumbai and learned dancing for a livelihood. With the help of a friend, I was able to get a job at a dance bar in Dubai in September 2008. I got acquainted with Binoy in Dubai, a frequent visitor at the bar. He claimed to be a Keralite involved in construction business in Dubai. He sought my mobile number and started calling me frequently. He gave me expensive gifts and money several times. He even promised to marry me if I was ready to quit my job.
“I used to visit Binoy's house. In 2009, I became pregnant. He rented out a flat at Andheri West and moved me to Mumbai by February 2010. My baby boy was born on July 22, 2010 at a hospital in Andheri. Binoy had assured my mother and sister that he would marry me. He used to send money every month and duly renewed the house rent contract every year or found a new one for us.
“In 2015, he said his business was going through a tough phase and that it was proving to be increasingly difficult to give us money. Thereafter, he started avoiding me. It was in 2018 that a financial fraud case was filed against Binoy. When the case surfaced I inquired and found that he had been married all along. When I first asked him about this, he failed to give a clear answer. After a while he started to threaten me. He eventually stopped picking up my calls. I requested him to marry me once again in 2019, but even his relatives threatened me after this,” the complaint said.
It's blackmailing, says Binoy
“This is blackmailing,” said Binoy Kodiyeri reacting to the FIR registered against him. He also claimed he would fight the case legally.
"This is blackmailing. I know the complainant. Her allegations are contradictory. She had filed a complaint against me four months ago as well. I have also filed a case against the woman in Mumbai. I will fight the new case legally," he said.
He also claimed that he had filed a complaint with the Kerala police against the woman in April this year. Kerala cops also confirmed this and stated that the IG had received the complaint and sent it to the SP. However, no inquiry was done on this complaint over jurisdiction issues and Lok Sabha election work, claimed police sources.
Kerala Police to file case
With the latest developments, the Kerala Police is all set to file a case against the woman based on the complaint filed by Binoy against her in April, alleging that the woman had tried to extort money from him.
Binoy had given the complaint along with a letter purportedly written by the woman.
The complaint given to the IG in April was handed over to the SP.
‘Punish, if found guilty’
Meanwhile, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that he was not aware of the allegations raised against the son of Kerala CPM state secretary Kodiyeri.
"As it is a personal case, there is no need to connect it with the party. If found guilty, then the accused should be punished. The party will not intervene in the case," Yechury said.
Past cases against Binoy, Bineesh
Binoy Kodiyeri was accused of cheating a Dubai-based tour company around Rs 1.74 crore (10 lakh Dirhams) last year. The complaint against Binoy was that he approached Dubai-based JAAS Tourism LLC for a loan to buy an Audi, and for investment. The money was to be paid back by June 2016. UAE citizen Hasan Ismail Abdullah Al Marzooqi, the owner of JAAS, claimed the cheques given by Binoy bounced and, hence, he was forced to file two criminal cases at the Dubai Police general headquarters.
In 2017, Kodiyeri Balkrishnan's younger son Bineesh Kodiyeri was also sentenced to two months jail term by a Dubai court for not repaying a loan taken from the Dubai branch of Saudi Arabia-based Samba Financiers.
