Vechoochira: It has been a year since college girl Jesna Maria James went missing from near here in Kerala's Pathanamthitta district. However, the investigation into her disappearance has hit a dead end.
Though the crime branch took over the probe from the local police, it has not been able to find any information regarding the girl. Currently the crime branch sleuths are examining the details that were found during the police inquiry.
It was on March 22, 2018, that Jesna of Kunnathu House, Kollamula in Pathanamthitta district, went missing. In the morning, she had left for a relative's place in Mundakayam. She was spotted in Erumeli. But she then disappeared without leaving any trace.
Investigation into the girl's disappearance began with a SIT being set up under Thiruvalla DySP. They went about looking for Jesna in Kerala and outside. With the help of cyberexperts, they tried to trace tens of thousands of phone calls.
According to enquiries conducted by her relatives, a CCTV camera footage revealed Jesna was sitting in a bus to Mundakayam. However, the police could not confirm if it was Jesna. But the cops also failed to find the girl who was seen in the CCTV footage.
The Kerala Police chief had even announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for anyone providing information on Jesna.
The crime branch inquiry was instituted immediately after Jesna's brother moved court seeking a CBI probe into her disappearance.
