Alappuzha: A 25-year-old doctor had a tragic end as the car she was travelling in collided with a tourist bus on the Alappuzha-Changanassery Road.
The deceased Dr Parvathy was the only daughter of Kozhikode residents Dr S Prasannakumar and Dr Shobha P Kumar.
Parvathi's friend Dr Nithin Babu, 26, sustained serious injuries and has been moved to a private hospital in Kochi. He was driving the car when the accident occurred near the Pallathuruthy Bridge at around 1 am on Sunday.
The two were travelling from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram to attend the wedding of a friend. As fire broke out in the impact of the collision, a rescue bid was made by the crew and passengers of the tourist bus. Highway Police rushed both to the Alappuzha Government Medical College Hospital, but Parvathy could not be saved.
The police have charged Nithin on the basis of a statement given by the bus cleaner.
Parvathy had completed her MBBS at the Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi and was preparing for the post-graduate entrance exam.
Nithin is a resident of Thayyil at West Hill, Kozhikode. Parvathi's house 'Lakshmi' is on YMCA Cross Road, Kozhikode. Her mother Dr Shobha is the head of the department of orthodontics at the Kozhikode Dental College.
