Relief camp turns into wedding venue

Anila and Chandramohan with camp inmates after the wedding

Mannarkkad, Palakkad: Numerous relief camps have come up across Kerala to provide safe refuge to the flood-hit people. The campers try to adjust to the conditions at the temporary shelters, and a few try to carry on with their normal lives. A wedding too was held at a camp in Palakkad the other day.

Anila and Chandramohan became man and wife at the relief camp and others who shared the flood misery there attended like family members. The wedding took place at the camp at Thenkara Government High School.

Anila is the daughter of Aiyappan Kutty of Kanunda, Kolpadam, and Chandramohan is the son of Karunakaran of Vadakkepurakkal, Peringod.

The wedding was scheduled at Thenkara school originally. But houses in the area were flooded and the school became a relief camp. Relatives and school authorities then asked Aiyappan Kutty if he wants the wedding to be conducted there. He said 'yes' and wanted everyone at the camp to attend the wedding as well as the feast that followed.

As preparations for the feast began on Saturday night, those at the camp readily joined in to help. The wedding was set between 10 and 11 in the morning. Relatives as well as camp inmates blessed the newly-married couple.
