Nedumbassery: A Kuwait Airways flight skidded off the runway as it touched down at the international airport in Kochi amid bad weather early Tuesday. However, none of the passengers were hurt.
Flight KU-357 carrying 163 people landed at 4.25 am amid speedy winds and heavy rain that have been wreaking havoc across Kerala for the past few days. The right wing of the plane scraped the lights on the edge of the runway, damaging five of them.
The pilot managed to immediately steady the plane and bring it to a halt, allowing passengers to deboard.
The stretch has been repaired and the runway is operational. The flight was repaired and it flew back to Kuwait at 9.30 am.
An Indigo flight from Dubai that was to land after KU-357 had to be rerouted to Coimbatore. The Indigo flight later landed at Kochi at 7.30 am.
The Kochi airport, which is India's fourth-busiest in terms of international traffic, had reported a similar incident a month ago. A Qatar Airways flight had skidded off the runway while landing during the wee hours of July 13. None in the flight was hurt.
