Idukki: With the intensity of rainfall waning, only a minimal increase was recorded in the water level of the Idukki reservoir. The water level at the dam on Saturday morning was at 2,396.34 feet, according to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA).
On Friday, the water level was at 2,396.28 feet. The corresponding readings from a year ago stood at 2,321.38 feet. The rain in the catchment area had dipped to 10.6 mm Friday.
An 'orange alert' was sounded after the water level in the dam touched 2,395 feet, which is prior to the 'red alert' that will be issued when it reaches 2,399 feet. The full level of the dam is 2,403 feet.
Kerala power minister M M Mani had on Thursday said that the shutters will be opened when the water level in the Idukki reservoir touches 2,398 feet. People will be alerted when the water level hits 2,397 feet and a trial run would be conducted at 2,398 feet.
Meanwhile, power generation at the Moolamattom power house is in full throttle. About 15.124 MU power was generated on Friday.
However, authorities have said that the with the dip in rainfall and ongoing power generation, the dam shutters were unlikely to be opened.
